Why did God preserve His words in the

English language?

Do you realize that God never promised to preserve the Scriptures in to every one of the world's languages and dialects? What God promised to do is to preserve His words to every generation.

"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. (Psalm 12:6, 7)"

God may preserve the Bible in Chinese, the language spoken by the most populated nation on Earth; it is His prerogative to do so. But he didn't promise to do so. China finds itself today in an English-speaking world; in an English-speaking generation.

Someone may retort that there is no verse in the Bible stating that God would preserve His words in English. But that only makes our point that the promise was not made to every language, but to every generation.

The Chinese themselves recognize English to be the "universal language" of this generation. God is not the Deist God, who gave His words and then went and hid, and allowed men to preserve it through scholarship. God is pro-active in the preservation of His words!

The following comes from the China Daily newspaper for Thursday, August 5, 2010 in a very long article, Rush to learn English fuels quality issues, on why Chinese are these days so diligently striving to learn the English language. Page 6 of that issue reveals what language the Chinese believe to be the "universal" one today.

Universal Language

English is the official language of 63 countries in the world. Every day more than one third of the world's population is communicating in English. In addition, more than 80 percent of the technological information is written in English, and almost 100 percent of the software source codes are written in English. The majority of the world's publications and world-class scientific papers are published and written in English.

"More and more importance has been given to English after China carried out the policy of reform and opening up to the outside world in the late 1970s. And accompanying China's rise on the world stage in recent years are growing connections of commerce and culture with other countries, especially those developed English-speaking countries, all of which provides many opportunities for the people who have grasped English well," said Xiao Yan, national public relations director of Wall Street English, a well-known English training institute in China that has taught more than 150,000 people and established 43 training schools in China during the past 10 years.

"The entire Chinese society attaches high importance to the English study as sometimes it even plays a vital role for a person who plans to pursue further education and seek a better career. There is no doubt that people who have a good command of English are more competitive than their peers and can win more developing opportunities," she added. (*excerpt)
