Bearing Fruit, or Cumbering the Ground
"He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years, I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down: why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down." Luke 13:6-9.
"Why cumbereth this tree the ground?"
Is that your attitude,
When not a morsel can be found,
Of life-sustaining food!
----
But God would have you dig and dung,
And wait that fruit may be.
Wait till the last song has been sung,
And God inspects the tree!
----
For GOD will cut down trees that bear
Not fruit that shall endure.
Reward for faithful service here,
Up there be given for sure.
----
He only asks that we would stand,
Sow, weep, and bear with tears.
The seed shall yield in Heav'n's fair land,
Results of well-spent years!
----
He may the little tree inspect.
Dig, dung, and with more room,
The tree exceed what we expect.
Where it be planted, bloom!
----
The wasted years we spent in youth,
May not much good be found.
The Husbandman doth know the truth.
This cumbereth not the ground!

Going On Without Giving Up
There's a crowd that ran before us;
Now they sing around the throne.
Soon we'll join them in their chorus,
Gladly sing their victory song!
---
There's a crowd that runs beside us,
Daily helps us in our task.
When the world's torments abide us,
They will help us, if we ask!
---
There's a crowd that runs behind us.
Can they truly call us friend?
Looking back, let them remind us
To stay faithful to the end.
---
Should we fail them on the journey,
No baton to them to pass.
Will we see them sadly turning?
Will they finish right at last?
---
Bless the Faithful Hand that leads us,
Fills each day anew our cup.
But the eyes of men proceed us.
Will we go on, and not give up?
---

Boatful of Grace
Your heart's a bark with limited space.
What will you carry there?
Oh, please, dear friend, make room for grace.
And cast away your care!
For friends may throw out careless words,
That hurt, depress, offend you.
While men may stand there with their swords,
Let God in love defend you!
Your heart's a vessel, strong and true,
But limited space within it.
The years of time, and things you do,
Can be ruined in a minute.
And God would have you lean on him,
And guard your reputation.
His light shone through this world so dim
May be a soul's salvation!
So in this vessel as you sail,
On a dark and stormy ocean,
Let not your words of grace e'er fail,
Your words or yet your motions.
God's molding now a bark of gold,
The dross is slowly burning
Who lets the storms, thy bark canst hold,
While on this arduous journey!
<P>Your boat may sail a restless sea.
And many storms may face.
And worldly winds may tear at thee,
Let God lead on in grace.

Concerning waiting on God's will and timing for marriage . . . .
I'm Waiting...
I'm waiting impatient and long
And tears often mix with my song
How can I now fail this test,
Knowing I might miss out on God's best.
---
Lord, show me, and help me to see
Your sweet will, Your best for me.
To save, Oh, Lord, to guard my heart,
Nor give away e'en one small part.
---
Oh, never may I give it up,
Till I've drunk also this sweet cup.
True to God in Heaven above.
Kept by the Lord for the ONE to love.
Content, submissive to His Voice.
Saved for the ONE of His Divine Choice.

Come, Call, Cleave
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." Jeremiah 33:3
"And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62
"If any man's work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister." 1 Corinthians 3:14; Hebrews 6:10
"Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
Come unto me, the Lord did say,
And I will give sweet rest.
For all the things that crowd thy mind,
Come find My will thy best.
I'll bear thy every toilsome care for thee.
If thou wilt bring them unto me.
---
Call unto me, the Lord did say,
And I will give reply.
I'll show thee great and mighty things,
You'll find I'm ever nigh.
I'll answer as it be my Holy will.
So, bid thy heart, Oh, peace be still!
---
Cleave unto me, the Lord did say,
And I will give reward.
For all thy service done down here,
In the Name of Christ thy Lord.
Unsung down here by voice of earthly men,
Rewarded richly there and then!
---
I am the Way, the Truth, the Life.
None in my presence dies.
For how can now death reign with Life,
And forever close thine eyes?
Look to the One who longs to bear thy grief,
And come, and call, and cleave!
